Taganrog Sea Commercial Port handled 323,000 tonnes 1Q’2019
In the first quarter of 2019, Taganrog Sea Commercial Port JSC (TagSCP, a company of UCL Port) handled 323,000 tonnes of cargo, down 3%, year-on-year. The company attributes the decrease to business decline in foreign trade markets dealing with the port’s key types of cargo, coal and grain.
In the reporting period, transshipment of general cargo grew by 11%, year-on-year, to 59,000. Ferrous metal handling increased to 37,000 tonnes, up 19%, year-on-year. Transshipment of cargo in big-bags and boxes remained flat, year-on-year, at 22,000 tonnes.
Negative dynamics was also demonstrated by dry bulk and loose cargo – down 24%, year-on-year, to 179,000 tonnes. In the first quarter of 2019, grain transshipment plunged by 49% to 42,000 tonnes. Ore transshipment grew by 36% to 22,000 tonnes, coal transshipment fell by 16% to 115,000 tonnes.
Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo surged by 96% to 85,000 tonnes.
Container throughput of TagSCP decreased by half to 300 TEU (600 tonnes).
In the 3-month period, TagSCP handled 209,000 tonnes of export cargo and 28,500 tonnes of import cargo. Coastal trade cargo handling totaled 86,000 tonnes. Exports and imports accounted for 64% and 9% of the company’s total throughput with domestic shipments making 27%. In January-March 2019, Taganrog Sea Commercial Port handled 3,795 railcars and 83 ships.
