French shipyard in Saint-Nazaire cuts steel for fifth Oasis class ship for Royal Caribbean International
The revolutionary Oasis Class will soon have a new sister (Hull No 34), as on April 24 Royal Caribbean International celebrated the steel cutting of a fifth Oasis Class ship, scheduled to be delivered in 2021. The steel cutting, marking the official start of construction, took place at machining workshop of the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, RCL said in a press release.
"This ceremony marks symbolically the start of the construction of the third Oasis-class built by the shipyard, after Harmony of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas respectively delivered in 2016 and 2018.
Like her sister ships, the hull of the new cruise ship will be composed with about 400, 000 machined steel parts," the shipbuilding company said.
RCL says the Oasis class took the cruise industry by storm with the introduction of Oasis of the Seas a decade ago and again with the introduction of Symphony of the Seas in 2018. The fifth Oasis Class ship will combine the iconic seven-neighborhood concept that her sister ships feature with a bold and unexpected lineup of thrilling experiences, imaginative dining, unparalleled entertainment and the latest technology.
