Yakutia, Russia officials host groundbreaking ceremony at the site of future Zhatai Shipyard
A cornerstone laying ceremony for construction of Zhatai Shipyard was held today, April 26 in the village of Zhatai, Sakha Republic, Russia. The construction kicked off with the installation of the first pile of future shipbuilding, ship repair yard designed for modernization of Yakutia based Lena Shipping Company’s fleet, press office of the Yakutia head and the government reported.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, who reported that shipyard construction is scheduled for completion in 2021.
The Head of Yakutia, Aisen Nikolaev, highlighted that Zhatai Shipyard will contribute to survival of the region’s shipping sector. “The construction of Zhaatai Shipyard will sure breathe in new life and will enable the development of our inland fleet. Launching ceremony for the first ship built at the shipyard is scheduled for 2022,” the official was quoted as saying.
The shipbuilding, ship repair yard construction schedule is 2019–2021. Once completed the shipyard will participate in fleet renewal programme for outdated fleet of Lena United River Shipping (LORP), which performs inland transportation of goods to the Arctic regions of Yakutia. Zhatai Shipyard will be commissioned at the end of 2021. Russian Government will allocate in federal budget nearly RUB 4,1 billion for the shipyard construction, the report said.
