Tallink Grupp transported 1,855,772 passengers in Q1’19, down 3.9% Y-o-Y
In March 2019 AS Tallink Grupp transported 686 488 passengers, which is a 4.1% decrease compared to March 2018. The number of cargo units increased by 2.0% to 32 524 units and the number of passenger vehicles decreased by 5.9% to 76 016 units in the same comparison, the company says in a press release.
In the first quarter of the 2019 financial year (January - March) AS Tallink Grupp transported 1 855 772 passengers which is a 3.9% decrease compared to the previous year. The number of transported cargo units increased by 2.7% to 93 114 units and the number of passenger vehicles decreased by 3.7% to 214 087 units in the same comparison.

Commenting on the statistics, Tallink Grupp’s CEO Paavo Nõgene said:
„The first quarter of 2019 has been an extremely busy period for Tallink Grupp with six of our vessels going through various renewals and upgrades during planned dockings at shipyards in Poland, Lithuania and Finland. The dockings have meant that we have had a total of 2 234 trips in total on all our vessels in the first quarter as compared to 2 299 trips in the first quarter of 2018, which inevitably has had an impact on the passenger numbers and is something we expected.
„Our last vessel to go through renewals this spring, which is Isabelle operating on the Riga-Stockholm route, will be returning from the dock in Naantali this Friday and after that we will resume business as usual with all our vessels and on all our routes ahead of the high season. And what’s more important, we will be resuming business as usual with upgraded vessels, which are even more energy efficient, eco-friendly and will offer our customers an even better experience on board.“
According to maritime regulations all passenger vessels must go through regular maintenance at least twice in five years. Tallink Grupp’s has invested over 90 million euros into modernising and upgrading its vessels in the last five years as part of the company’s ongoing ship renovation programme.
Tallink Grupp operated approximately 3% less trips on its vessels in Q1 2019 as compared to the same period last year due to the planned dockings of its vessels.
