RF Government allows LNG transportation along Northern Sea Route by certain foreign ships
Transportation of liquefied natural gas along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) is allowed by the decision of RF Government dated 14 March 2019 (No 435-р) to a number of foreign-flagged ships. The document has been published at the official internet portal for legal information.
The permit covers ships chartered for at least 15 years.
The permit is valid up to 30 December 2043.
Vessels chartered for a 6-month period at the port of Sabetta are allowed for operation till 30 December 2021.
Earlier, transportation of hydrocarbons by the Northern Sea Route was not allowed for ships flying the flags of foreign companies.
Foreign-flagged ships will be allowed to transport natural gas including LLNG and gas condensate if it is produced in Russia and loaded in Sabetta. The delivery is allowed to the first point of unloading or transshipment. The permit is also applicable to cases when raw materials are loaded in Sabetta and unloaded/transshipped in Murmansk and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
