SNSZ launches third Rondo-class fast patrol cutter (Project R1650) for Russia's Border Guard
St. Petersburg, Russia based Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard (SNSZ, part of USC), rolled out and launched a multi-purpose craft of Rondo-class (Project R1650), the shipbuilding company said.
After completion of outfitting at the shipyard berth the shipbuilder will launch dockside and sea trials.
This is third in a series of Rondo-class (R1650) fast patrol cutters built at SNSZ for the Border Guard Service of the Russian Federal Security Service. The class lead ship was delivered to the customer in 2015. The acceptance / delivery certificate for the second serial boat was signed in 2017. The third vessel delivery is scheduled for the end of 2018.
The Rondo-class multi-purpose cutter was designed to perform patrol and inspection tasks in designated areas, for fast delivery of law enforcement teams to / from inspected vessels, transport of special personnel, of cargo, for SaR operations in designated areas.
The ship with the crew of 2 can accommodate up to 10 passengers. The boat with total displacement 28.5 tonnes has maximum speed of 13 knots, at maximum rated power of main engines (40 km / h).
The boats of Project R1650 designed by Design Group RICOCHET LLC feature a number of advantages. The R1650 concept is based on a steel hull to give the patrol boat the capability of operating in brash ice. This will extend the operation window of the Rondo-class boats during the winter season and allows warm lay-up. The steel hull is combined with composites deck and superstructure reducing the overall weight and her draft which will allow the vessel to operate in shallow waters. The hull is of the semi-displacement type with a skeg to give course-keeping stability.
The history of Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard based in Saint-Petersburg dates back to 1912. Today the shipyard is a subsidiary of the Russian shipbuilding conglomerate, the United Shipbuilding Corporation. The company is a leader in composite shipbuilding in Russia. The vessels are manufactured from conventional steel, composite materials, low-magnetic steel, aluminum-magnesium alloys. The shipyard has built over 500 warships and vessels of 43 designs for the Russian Navy and foreign customers.
