Port of Helsinki organises the ‘ Waters of the future’ discussion event
The themes of the ‘ Waters of the future’ discussion event, organised on 12 August in Jätkäsaari, include the versatility of mobility and the future of sustainable tourism, especially in terms of water routes. Annika Järvelin, Jukka Punamäki, Sinikka Hartonen and Kati Ihamäki participate in the discussion on tourism. The discussion event is part of the themed subject matter of the annual Satamahulinat event programme organised by the Port of Helsinki.
The ‘ Waters of the future’ discussion event is organised from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on 12 August in Jätkäsaari as part of the annual Satamahulinat festival programme organised by the Port of Helsinki. The discussion focuses on how responsibility towards the environment and services as well as an increased awareness of travelling practices affect travelling on water routes, in particular.
The discussion hopes to determine what the changes in travel mean for different target groups. Are families with children likely to focus more on responsibility in the future? What kind of services do luxury travellers expect in 2030? Will mass tourism continue to thrive? What kind of experiences do adventurers look for in a world that is increasingly concerned about climate change? How are the trends in tourism likely to change in the long run?
The annual Satamahulinat festival is a free-of-charge outdoor event for the entire family that always includes themed subject matter. This year, the themed content comes in the form of the ‘ Waters of the future’ discussion event. “We want to highlight various aspects of tourism and travelling on water routes and start a discussion on them through our themed content. This time, we decided to focus on responsibility and the role of responsibility in terms of travelling, in particular,” says Eeva Hietanen, Communications Manager at the Port of Helsinki.
Annika Järvelin (founder, Duara Travels), Jukka Punamäki (Senior Advisor, Tourism development, City of Helsinki), Sinikka Hartonen (Finnish Shipowner's Association, Senior Advisor) and Kati Ihamäki (VP, Sustainable Development, Finnair) will be participating in the discussion on the future of tourism. The discussion will be moderated by Kati Kelola, who is the editor in chief of Mondo magazine and author of the Vastuullisen matkailijan käsikirja travel guide for responsible tourists.
