More lorries choose ferry instead of bridge between Sweden and Denmark
During May 2018, 43,641 lorries chose the environmentally-friendly ferry route across Öresund, which is 4,256 units more compared to the month before, says HH Ferries Group. This is the first time the number of lorries choosing Scandlines to cross the Sound between Helsingborg and Helsingör exceeds the number of lorries taking the fixed connection between Malmö and Copenhagen.
“It is really pleasing to see that the strong growth in the number of lorries transported in 2017 is continuing. It is truly a positive trend when more freight customers choose the short and environmentally-friendly trip with Scandlines Helsingborg-Helsingör instead of taking the trip across the bridge,” says Johan Röstin, CEO of HH Ferries AB.
Growth was also strong in 2017 as 428,000 lorries chose to cross the sea. This was the beginning of a clear trend. One important reason why the ferry crossing between Helsingborg and Helsingör now attracts the majority of freight traffic is the combination of frequent departures and operating stability on the route.
“We know that our customers appreciate saving 50 kilometers on the road each way, thus reducing driving time and getting a nice break during the short crossing. When we add the environmental benefits of these lorries choosing the green corridor across the Sound, that is simply fantastic. That shows us that we are on the right track,” concludes Johan Röstin.
HH Ferries Group operates the ferries between Sweden and Denmark on the route Helsingborg–Helsingör. The group is marketed under the trademark Scandlines Helsingborg–Helsingör and Scandlines Helsingør–Helsingborg.
