Japan’s Mitsui expressed its interest in Russia’s Baltic LNG project (photo)
Mitsui & Co Ltd. (Japan) has expressed its interest in Russian project Baltic LNG. According to the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, the issues of cooperation with Japanese partners in the field of LNG were discussed at the meeting of Kirill Molodtsov, Deputy Minister of Energy, with the Japanese delegation headed by Kajuma Miyajawa, General Manager of the Mitsui’s Russia and Australia Gas Business Division, and Taichi Nagino, General Manager of Mitsui’s Shale Gas Projects Division.
The parties discussed the Sakhalin 2 project implementation and prospects for participation in construction of the LNG plant’s third technological line.
According to the statement, the Japanese partners also expressed their interest in participating in other promising LNG projects like Baltic LNG. The meeting participants agreed to continue cooperation at both interministerial and corporate levels.
Baltic LNG is a project on construction of an LNG plant in the Leningrad Region with design capacity of 10 mln t per year. LNG will be exported to the countries of the Atlantic region, Middle East and South Asia.
In June 2017, Gazprom and Shell signed two agreements on Baltic LNG project. One of the documents, Heads of Agreement, describes the concept behind the joint venture, which will secure financing for and carry out the design, construction and operation of the LNG plant in the Leningrad Region. The parties also signed the Joint Study Framework Agreement on the Baltic LNG project.
