RF Transport Ministry set to establish a unified FSBI Northern Sea Route administration in 2018
The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation is going to establish this year a unified FSBI Northern Sea Route administration able to meet the full range of tasks on ensuring safe shipping in the water area of the Northern Sea Route, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Victor Olersky, Deputy Transport Minister of Russia – head of Federal Marine and River Transport Agency (Rosmorrechflot), as saying at the final meeting of Rosmorrechflot’s Board and Public Council.
According to him, NSR cargo traffic in 2017 grew 1.3 times to 9.9 million tonnes (2017 – 9,932,000 tonnes, +32.8%; 2016 – 7,480,200 tonnes ) including 194,400 tonnes of transit cargo (vs 214,500 tonnes in 2016).
Experts say NSR cargo traffic will reach 70-80 million tonnes by 2025.
In 2017, NSR Administration issued 662 permits for navigation in the NSR waters including 107 permits provided to vessels sailing under foreign flags (vs 718 permits issued in 2016 including 144 permits provided to vessels sailing under foreign flags).
