Port of Klaipeda (Lithuania) handled 7.25 million tonnes of cargo in 2M'18, up 6% Y-o-Y
Freight volume handled at the Port of Klaipeda, Lithuania, in January-February 2018 grew by 6%, year-on-year, to 7.25 million tonnes, the Port Authority statistics said. Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo grew by 7.6% to 1.98 million tonnes, dry bulk cargo – fell by 3.4% to 2.99 million tonnes, general cargo – grew by 19.7% to 2.28 million tonnes.
In the reporting period, Butinge Terminal handled 1.47 million tonnes of oil (+21.6%).
The port’s passenger throughput grew by 12.1% to 21,700 passengers.
The number of calls totaled 1,059.
State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are 17 stevedore companies, shipyards and other operators at the port, providing a broad range of services. Throughput of Klaipeda port in 2017 totaled 43.17 million tonnes.
