WWL to build vehicle processing centre in Tacoma, Washington
On February 6, the Port of Tacoma commissioners approved a 30-year lease with Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) to develop a dockside Vehicle Processing Centre (VPC). WWL will lease 90 acres of land in the Port of Tacoma, which was previously home to a Kaiser Aluminum smelter site, the company said in its press release.
Once completed, the VPC will have the capacity to process up to 100,000 vehicles a year, most of which are bound for the local market or transported by rail to the U.S. Midwest.
WWL’s RoRo vessels have been calling Tacoma and other ports in the Puget Sound since 1992. The addition of the VPC allows WWL to grow its footprint in Tacoma and provide additional value-added services for its automotive customers.
