Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg allocated EUR 11.2 million for modernization of its production facilities in 2017, up 20% Y-o-Y
In 2017, Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg JSC (SP SPb, a company of UCL Holding) allocated EUR 11.2 million for modernization of its production facilities, which exceeds the allocations of the previous year by 20%.
According to the company, the bulk of those allocations – more than 60% – were spent for new equipment procurement. SP SPb acquired fork lift trucks and truck tractors for metal handling, reach stackers and additional equipment for container services. Over the year, retrofit covered some 18% of the company’s handling equipment and part of portal cranes’ special-purpose tooling. In the reporting period, the company also made an advance payment for its new Vityaz portal cranes. The full-revolving electrical cranes of up to 40 tonnes in capacity will be delivered to the port berths this year.
Apart from technical modernization, SP SPb upgraded more than 40,000 sqm of production and storage facilities. In particular, the company put into operation two temporary storage warehouses – for wood pellets and grain – with the capacity of up to 10,000 tonnes each. Besides, it commissioned a new storage yard for general cargo with a load of up to 20 tonnes per sqm allowing for handling of bulky and heavy cargo. The company repaired highway and railway approaches to the yard and replaced the switch assemblies.
Moreover, SP SPb invested in improvement of the company’s energy efficiency. In particular, throughout the year the company replaced more than 50 km of utility networks and upgraded its energy facilities. In the reporting period, the port also implemented a package of measures on retrofit of its water disposal system and improvement of its gate check system.
Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg JSC (a company of UCL Port – stevedoring division of the International Transportation Group UCL Holding) is the largest operator, rendering services on handling of all types of dry cargoes at Big Port St. Petersburg. It operates modern multipurpose specialized terminals for handling of general and bulk cargoes and specialized terminals for ro-ro cargoes and containers. In 2017, the company handled 6.9 million tonnes of cargo.
