Vostochny Port obtains ISO 14001:2015 certificate
Vostochny Port JSC (part of Port Management Company coal holding), the largest Russia’s dedicated terminal with state-of-the-art coal handling technologies, became the first coal port in the country’s Far East region that obtained a certificate of compliance with the requirements of the international standard ISO 14001: 2015 "Environmental management systems. Requirements with guidance for use", the stevedoring company said in a press release.
The certificate confirms that Vostochny Port JSC complies both with Russian legislation and international requirements related to control of the risk factors in production activities and environmental impact. A complex inspection of Vostochny Port’s environmental management system compliance was initiated by the company.
Experts of DNV GL - Business Assurance in December 2017 conducted an audit the compliance of the activities and the environmental management system (EMS) of Vostochny Port with all the necessary requirements of the international standard.
"The specialists have inspected all the production sites,and studied management processes, highly appreciated the level of drawing up and implementation of the EMS documentation. The auditors noted the effectiveness of the implemented integrated environmental policy, the ability of the enterprise to achieve permanent compliance with state and regulatory requirements," the Vostochny Port report said.
The audit showed that the environmental management system of Vostochny Port JSC fully complies with the requirements of ISO 14001: 2015 in the field of transshipment of goods (coal) at the terminal. The certificate of compliance is valid until January 26, 2021. During this time, DNV GL - Business Assurance specialists will conduct two supervisory audits.
Previously, in April 2017, Vostochny Port passed a diagnostic audit. Experts of the Russian company SP AKONT evaluated the existing system of the stevedore’s environmental management system and gave recommendations for effective implementation of the requirements of ISO 14001: 2015.
Vostochny Port within the framework of EMS developed and implemented a policy in the field of quality and environmental safety, approved provisions that determine the order of actions in the management system. Senior executives of divisions and engineers were trained under the programme "Environmental Management System. Internal Audit. ISO 14001: 2015" with the receipt of personal certificates.
“Vostochny Port is focused on a comprehensive approach to ensuring environmental safety and quality of services provided, creation of modern and occupational safety, improvement of the used processes and technologies efficiency. In 2017, the enterprise spent more than RUB 43.2 million on environmental activities and earmarked for 2018 in excess of 221.3 million rubles in environmental programme," commented Viktoria Arsenteva, head of the Ecology Department, Vostochny Port.
Vgrangel, Primorsky Krai based Vostochny Port JSC is Russia's largest dedicated open access coal port using covered stations for unloading and transfer of coal, conveyor equipment, rotary car dumpers, shiploaders and the second-to-none system of multi-stage magnetic coal separation. The port handles coal mined and exported by Russian coal companies. In 2017 coal throughput at the terminal reached 23.2 million tonnes, a fifth of all coal exports from Russia's seaports and about 30% of coal transshipment in the ports of the Far Eastern Basin.
Vostochny Port JSC is a free access terminal, open to all coal producers. The enterprise's main objective is the increase in coal throughput and the best quality of cargo handling services: ensuring an uninterrupted supply chain and loading the commodity to the most efficient types of vessels for the formation of new supply routes.
Vostochny Port JSC LLC is implementing an ambitious investment project on construction of the coal terminal’s Phase 3 including the construction of the federal railway infrastructure. Vostochny Port’s Phase 3 facilities will be put into operation in 2018 allowing for port capacity to reach 39-40 mln t in 2019. The coal will be delivered from Kuzbass and other coal fields of Russia.
A sole executive body of Vostochny Port JSC is Port Management Company LLC.
Port Management Company LLC is Russia's major coal port holding that exercises the powers of a single executive body of largest dedicated coal ports based in the Baltic Sea region (Rosterminalugol JSC, Ust-Luga, Leningrad Region) and in the Far East (Vostochny Port JSC, Wrangel Bay, Primorsky Territory). In 2017, total coal throughput of the holding's stevedoring companies reached 48.2 million tonnes, which is more than one third of all seaborne coal exports from Russia.
