Icebreaker Urho to assist vessels in the Bay of Bothnia
Arctia says icebreaker Urho departed the icebreaker base in Helsinki as the Finnish icebreaking season’s fifth icebreaker on Saturday 10 February 2018. IB Urho heads to the Bothnian Bay, where icebreakers Kontio, Otso and Polaris already assist traffic. IB Voima works in the Gulf of Finland.
“After a few milder winters the crew is eager to get to work again. On our way north we will support the Finnish Meteorological Institute by dropping some buoys on the ice. The buoys will measure ice movements”, explains Timo Aaltonen, Master of IB Urho.
