ORV Admiral Vladimirsky makes route depth measurements along 20,000 linear kilometres in Indian Ocean
In the course of research in the Indian Ocean according to the plan of the 2nd International UNESCO Expedition, the crew and military hydrographs aboard the Russian Navy’s oceanographic research vessel (ORV) Admiral Vladimirsky have carried out the route depth measurements along 20,000 linear kilometres of a 50-day distant cruise, says press center of RF Defence Ministry. At the present time, the vessel has passed 12 thousand nautical miles.
The vessel uses only Russian research equipment, which showed itself on the very best side. These are the newest gravimetric complex, modernised NEL-1000M measuring depth sounder, the OLD-1 hydrological trier, which have been installed at the Kronstadt Marine Plant before the vessel's departure for the expedition.
The vessel crew and the expedition members are tasked to carry out a set of hydro-meteorological observations during the 6-month cruise, to perform a large volume of research work for correcting navigational charts along the route in the Baltic, Northern, Mediterranean, Red Seas, Indian Ocean, and in the north-eastern part of the Atlantic Ocean.
