Sevmorzavod shipyard (Sevastopol) handed over to federal ownership (document)
RF Government has decided to hand over Sevastopol Marine Plant named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze from the city of Sevastopol to the federal ownership and assign it to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
According to the official website of the Russian Government, the Decree No 127-р was signed on 31 January 2018.
The transfer was initiated by RF Ministry of Industry and Trade.
According to the statement, the decision “will facilitate integration of the company into the defense industry complex of Russia and ensure full loading of the shipyard’s production facilities”.
Sevastopol Marine Plant (Sevmorzavod shipyard) was founded in 1783. In March 2015, the Government of Sevastopol and Russia's shipbuilding conglomerate United Shipbuilding Corporation signed a Memorandum on Cooperation with the purpose of reviving the company. Currently, the Zvezdochka's Sevastopol unit specializes in shipbuilding, ship repair, manufacturing onboard and industrial equipment, engineering and manufacturing of metal structures. The company is on the list of organizations of Russia’s defense industry complex.
