SMM 2018 is fully booked eight months to go before the event
In just a few months, from 4 to 7 September 2018, it will be time again for the Who’s Who of the international maritime industry to meet up for SMM 2018 at the Hamburg fair complex. The event organizers say one thing is clear already: SMM will once again prove beyond doubt that it is indeed the leading international maritime trade fair. With more than 2,200 exhibitors from 69 countries, including major players participating for the first time, the fair halls’ 90,000 square metres of exhibition space are fully booked months in advance. The number of national pavilions has increased again, with Panama, Estonia and Columbia each represented by a dedicated pavilion. The Japanese shipyard association JSEA has requested a 50 per cent enlargement of its exhibition space, sending a clear signal to the industry.
New focus is on SMMart Shipping
With a rich conference programme and a featured topic on each day of the fair, SMM will give answers to the most urgent questions of the maritime sector. True to the leitmotif of “Trends in SMMart Shipping”, Digitalisation will again be among the common themes. For example, software-based efficiency-enhancement solutions will be presented in Hall A5 which will be dedicated to Green Propulsion. Cybersecurity as an important aspect of maritime security will be featured in Hall B8. In response to strong market demand, this SMM will for the first time provide a significant amount of space to interior equipment and furnishings for ferries and cruise ships. In addition, a “Cruise Route” will be added to the 2018 SMM list of theme-based fair itineraries helping visitors find exhibitors of specific interest.
Quality, variety, global scope
As a source of new ideas and fresh impetus, SMM is a constant in the maritime industry and an ideal platform for networking, mutual inspiration, practical solutions and business deals. Shipyards, suppliers and maritime services present the state of the art in marine technology, offering visitors future-looking innovations that deliver real-life value. The 2018 roster of exhibitors includes both, the industry’s key players and new start-ups ready to shake up the sector with disruptive inventions.
