Sea Port of St.Peterburg completed another stage of machinery modernization
JSC “Sea Port of St.Petersburg” welcomed yet another batch of new port machinery – four forklift trucks KALMAR, which will be used for handling of slabs, steel coils and other rolled metals. The company says new machines are expected to give a boost to the existing operations with ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
The capacity of two trucks is 16 tons each, while another two trucks can lift up to 33 tons each. The lift height of each truck is 5 meters, which makes them suitable for container stacking operations. The distinctive feature of new machines is additional LED lighting for improved safety of operations of dockworkers during dark hours and sustaining consistently high performance levels.
New forklift trucks are to be delivered as per the programme of development of JSC “Sea Port of St. Petersburg” in the framework of which around 30% of port machinery was renovated over two years starting from 2016. For this period of time SPSP purchased 46 lift trucks with the capacity of 3-42 tons, five tractors and a terminal trailer with the capacity of 65 tons, two bucket loaders, four reach-stackers. Also, SPSP put into operation two MANTSINEN 200(ES) material handling machines with the capacity of 30 tons each.
Moreover, within those two years of development programme realization our company purchased over 40 units of cargo handling attachments, technological gear and additional equipment for port machinery. Among these, for example, is autonomous electro-magnetic crane spreader “ARMAG” with gasoline-powered electric power generator – it will intensify metal handling while eliminating the risk of incidental release of cargo in case of possible power failure.
Next year SPSP is going to continue the re-equipment of its terminals. Besides two dozens of port machines and attachments for them the company is planning to buy two new gantry cranes with the capacity of 40 tons each.
JSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” (a company of UCL Port – stevedoring division of the international transportation group UCL Holding) – is the largest provider of cargo handling services for all types of dry cargoes in the Greater Port of Saint-Petersburg. It operates several state-of-the-art multi-purpose terminals for handling of general and bulk cargoes, as well as specialized terminals for ro-ro and container cargoes. In 2016 the company’s cargo turnover amounted to 7.3 million tons, for 9 months of 2017 – 5.1 million tons.
