Sevmash floated out nuclear-powered missile submarine Knyaz Vladimir (photo)
Borey-A-class submarine Knyaz Vladimir, the missile underwater cruiser of the fourth generation, has been floated out of the covered slipway of Sevmash (Severodvinsk based shipyard of United Shipbuilding Corporation). USC says the ceremony was attended by commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy Admiral Vladimir Korolev, representatives of the shipbuilding industry, design bureau and the authorities.
According to the statement, floating out of the ship marks the completion of the first significant phase in construction of the nuclear-powered submarine. The underwater cruiser will then undergo all factory and state tests.
The state-of-the-art ship designed by Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering was laid down in 2012 in the presence of RF President Vladimir Putin.
The Borey-A-class missile carries have advanced specifications comparing to the predecessors, the Borey-class submarines.
Currently, there are another four hulls of the nuclear underwater cruisers with ballistic missiles on board are under construction at Sevmash enterprise. The hulls will be used for the submarines Knyaz Oleg, Generalissimus Suvorov, Imperator Alexander III, Knyaz Pozharsky.
The nuclear missile submarine of these Project will be received by the Russian Navy to become the basis of the Naval Strategic Nuclear Forces.
