Waterborne freight carried on Azovo-Don inland waterways in 10 months fell 4.9% to 8.78 million tonnes
Total freight traffic within the boundaries of the Azov-Don Inland Waterways Basin from January through October, 2017 reached 8,780,000 tonnes, which is 4.9% lower than the same period of 2016. This was reported to the regional correspondent of IAA PortNews in the FBU Azov-Don basin administration.
The volume of transit cargo moved along inland waterways decreased by 4.2% to 7,279,000 tonnes, domestic cargo volume - by 8.1% to 1,501,000 tonnes.
In the reporting period 5,087 vessels and ATBs passed along the basin inland waterways, including 2515 units downstream and 2572 units upstream (2016 – 5504; 2725 / 2779).
Overall waterborne cargo volume in October 2017 within the Azov-Don Basin dropped 6.8% on October 2016 to 1,253,000 tonnes. Shipping of HFO increased by 3.8% to 379,000 tonnes, while transport of sulfur decreased by 21.6% to 145,000 tonnes. Transit freight traffic was down 3.6% to 998,000 tonnes. Cargo volume moved within the rivers basin fell by 17.5% to 255,000 tonnes.
Monthly number of vessels and ATBs that passed the basin waterways totaled 694 units: 355 downstream / 339 upstream (2016 – 759 units; 385 / 374).
Water discharge rate from Tsimlyansk Reservoir between October 1 and 9, 2017 reached 380 cbm / s, since October 10 - 340 cbm / s.
The Federal Azov-Don Basin Authority is responsible for management and control of inland waterways of the Don River Don from the lower access channel of Lock No 15 (Tsimlyansk Reservoir) to the village of Aksai (the 3121-km stretch of the Don), except for Nikolayevsky and the Konstantinovsky hydroengineering facilities, and the tributaries of the Don River, Seversky Donets (from Krasny farm to the mouth) and the Manych River (from the Novo-Manychskaya Dam to the river mouth). The total length of the Azov-Don Basin Administration managed inland waterways reaches 691.3 km.
