Russia’s Ministry of Natural resources forecasts crude minerals flow via NSR under current investment projects to reach 42 mln t by 2026
The Ministry’s forecast for the transportation of crude minerals produced in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation covers the period through 2030 and offers two scenarios. The basic one takes into consideration only approved projects on development of Arctic fields. The other scenario additionally accounts license commitments and plans of the companies.
The forecast provides information necessary for planning of transport infrastructure development, estimation of the need for cargo ships of different types, sizes and ice classes, setting of icebreaking tasks.
The draft forecast was considered at the meeting of the working group "Ensuring environment safety and rational use of natural resources” of the State Commission on Arctic Development chaired by Sergei Donskoi, Russia’s Minister of Natural Resources and Environment. The meeting was attended by representatives of ad hoc ministries and large producing companies (LUKOIL, NOVATEK, ROSNEFT, Gazprom, Gazprom Neft, Norilsk Nickel, The First Ore Mining Company); authorities of the Yamal-Nenets and Nenets Autonomous Districts, Arkhangelsk Region; Northern Sea Route Administration; Center ensuring the activities of the State Commission on Arctic Development; scientific, consulting and environmental organizations.
The working group emphasized the need to adjust the forecast at least once in half a year upon obtaining the results of the monitoring of the projects development.
