Kelvin Hughes to demonstrate its latest naval tactical navigation software at DSEI 2017
Kelvin Hughes will be showing its latest tactical software features for the company’s naval navigation and situational awareness displays through an interactive multiscreen system, the company said in its press release.
The radar display range and its navigation and situational awareness software compliments the SharpEye™ radar series by introducing tactical features that further enhance the ship’s capability.
Examples are Helicopter Control Mode, Multiple-Sector Transmissions and Jamming Detection Mode. The latter is the latest feature to be added to the system and is being demonstrated for the first time at DSEI.
This mode alerts the operator when the radar experiences jamming and also indicates the direction of the jamming source. The operator can choose whether this information is displayed on the main PPI or on a secondary and smaller PPI on the same screen, leaving the main PPI clear for small target searches such as periscope detection.
Once jamming has been detected, a unique feature of SharpEye™ pulse Doppler radars is the ability to adjust the frequency of the transmission directly from the display. This is because SharpEye™ transmits on specific narrow frequency bands with a choice of between 8 and 16 channels available.
The range of tactical features, navigation features, Enhanced Target Detection (ETD) mode and the ability to network the system allowing sharing of radar and tactical information across the bridge, CIC and operations room provides a truly multifunction system. Operators are able to employ all these features from any radar station.
Unlike a magnetron radar where the “Master” display dictates the pulse length in use, multiple operators can see an optimum picture simultaneously, irrespective of their particular radar range scale in use. This is possible because SharpEye™ transmits a succession of short, medium and long pulses in all range modes.
Other features being demonstrated at DSEI include the Tactical Picture Building and Management Tools, Helicopter on Approach and various other tools to assist in the search, prosecution, avoidance and interception of targets. There are also features for managing torpedo in the water and anti-submarine warfare.
Finally, further integration into the ships weapon systems is available such as target indication, weapon arcs, gun direction and the control of electro-optical systems.
DSEI brings together the entire defence and security industry to source the latest technologies and develop international networks and is the world’s leading event.
