Balakovskiy Shipyard handed over RSD60 dry cargo ship "Yediniy" to customer
The handover ceremony for the MV Yediny, lead vessel in a series of multipurpose dry bulk carriers of Project RSD60 was held August 2, 2017 in the town of Balakovo. The dry bulk carrier was built at Saratov Oblast based Balakovsky Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Yard (Balakovsky Shipyard). The RSD60 vessels have sea / river DWT of 4608 / 2705 tonnes.
The shipbuilder said that this is the first ship built at Balakovsky Shipyard after a 30-year interruption of the production process.
The ceremony was attended by Andrey Kulikov the Saratov region's minister of industry and energy, Ivan Cheprasov, head of the Balakovo Municipal District, Vladimir Glukhov, Chairman of the BoD Vega Group, Elena Mayer CEO, United Shipyards Vega, Victor Shchepilov, Director of Balakovsky Shipyard LLC, Yuri Starostin, Director of the Volga River branch of the Russian River Register, members of the regional government, representatives of the city community.
The Customer is the Vega Shipping Company. The RSD60-series was developed by Marine Engineering Bureau.
According to Marine Engineering Bureau, RSD60 ships are intended for sea and mixed (river-sea) carrying of general, bulk, timber goods including TEU and FEU and some dangerous goods.
RSD60 vessels meet the dimensions of Volga-Don Canal, Volga-Baltic Way and White Sea – Baltic Sea Canal. The ship’s overall length is 118.97 m, breadth is 13.0 m, depth is 5.8 m.
Sea DWT with draft of 4.88 m is about 4,608 tonnes; river DWT/3.60m draft is about 2,705 tonnes; operational speed – 10 knots; summarized capacity of three cargo holds – 5,931 cbm; ballast draught – 2.81 m. Summarized capacity of ballast tanks is 1,992 cbm. Two main medium-speed diesel engines rated power is 600 kW, on MDO fuel with flash point of more than 60º. Endurance - 15 days. Crew - 14 (16 places).
The RSD60-series lead ship the MV Yediny was laid down on 25 January 2012 and launched on 8 November 2014.
Balakovsky Shipyard founded in 1918 was one of the largest enterprises in the Volga basin. Until the mid-1980s, the company was building Project P-125 barges and Reidovy class tugs. Since September 2010, the company has been part of JSC Vega Shipping Company. Since 2013 the shipyard has been specializing in a new segment: river and sea-going vessels and is heavily investing in its facilities upgrade.
