Atomredmetzoloto to build a port on the Novaya Zemlya with annual capacity of 500,000 t for transshipment of ore from Pavlovskoe deposit
JSC Atomredmetzoloto is going to build an Arctic terminal on the Novaya Zemlya Archipelago with annual capacity of 500,000 t for transshipment of ore from the Pavlovskoe deposit, Vladimir Verkhovtsev, Director General of JSC Atomredmetzoloto, told IAA PortNews at the IV International Arctic Forum ‘Arctic – Territory of Dialogue’ (29-30 March 2017, Arkhangelsk).
According to him, the project is in the phase of survey and design works. The designer of the port and the ore mining/processing facility is JSC VNIPIpromtechnologii. The port on the Novaya Zemlya Archipelago is supposed to handle 500,000 mln t of cargo per year including some 300,000 t of ore. The project implementation period has not been defined yet.
“Everything will depend on the exploration we have started this year, - said Vladimir Verkhovtsev. Today, we are conducting drilling from ice. The survey will last till about November”.
Original depth at the proposed construction site is 12 metres. Vladimir Verkhovtsev says FSUE Rosmorport has offered services on dredging and construction of the access canal.
The investments required for the project implementation have not been estimated so far.
“We don’t rule out VostokUgol as a possible investor. It has a good experience in construction of a new port in the Arctic zone – the company built a new port on the Taimyr peninsula within quite a short period of time. We count on involvement of their experience and their finances for fast construction of a port on the Novaya Zemlya”, said Director General of JSC Atomredmetzoloto.
