LASE successfully implements application LaseLCPS-2D for two crane systems at Intermodal Terminal WienCont in Austria
Together with the Austrian crane manufacturer Hans Künz GmbH, LASE has successfully implemented the application LaseLCPS-2D (Load Collision Prevention System) for two crane systems at the Intermodal Terminal WienCont in Vienna, Austria. LASE says it is the one of the biggest container terminals for inland ports in Europe, where approx. 200.000 containers are handled annually. By the installation of this laser measurement system containers can be picked safely and noise reduced (without any collision) as well as dropped “softly”.
The Intermodal Terminal in Vienna (Austria) is one of most important hubs for the national and international flow of goods. Austrian crane manufacturer Hans Künz GmbH has installed the modern crane systems on this site. Two of these cranes (RMGs) have been equipped with the laser measuring system LaseLCPS-2D (Load Collision Prevention System).
Primarily the customer WienCont put a high emphasis on the Soft Landing function at this crane driver assistance system. This function is being activated while hoisting the load and ensures container drops without any wear as well as with explicitly reduced noise emission. This is why not only damages at the containers or spreaders can be reduced, but also the noise pollution for the environment. Especially at Intermodal Terminals, which are mostly situated in the proximity of residential areas, low pollution is important for a good neighbourliness.
The measurement system consists of two 2D laser scanners from the LASE 2000D-Series, which provide highly precise 2D profiles to the measurement software. The laser scanners are mounted under the crane trolley in order to generate a scan area in both trolley directions. While driving over the container stacks a current height profile of the containers is created permanently. Simultaneously the laser scanners measure the height of the load (spreader with or without container). In case of a finished container move, the relative distance between the objects is known by the relative position measurement. Thus the measurement system can control the hoist such that the spreader on a container or a container on a container, waggon or truck can be dropped “softly”.
Furthermore the measurement system LaseLCPS-2D can prevent collisions, if the hoist (with or without container) drives over the container stacking area. Next to the applied 2D version the application software LaseLCPS is also available as a 3D version (by the use of 3D laser scanners) und ensures a safe and gentle handling of the materials for RMG-, RTG- and STS-Cranes in the worldwide biggest container ports reliably.
