When the Ballast Water Management Convention (BWMC 2004) enters into force on September 8, 2017 shipyard need to anticipate 20-40 retrofits per day globally, Damen representative said at the Conference “Implementation of the BWMC in Russia” organized by Media Group PortNews with the assistance of the Russian Ministry of Transport and held in Moscow on 27 February 2017.
According to the expert, in case a vessel can not treat its ballast water after the 8th of September it has to stay on board. Due to the weight of the ballast water less cargo can be loaded.
“The loss can be up to 50 dollar per ton, for a single vessel the loss can be hundred thousands of euros”, said the expert.
Another representative of DAMEN, who also spoke at the Conference, told about DAMEN’s center of excellence for ballast water treatment: “Damen Green Solutions”. For this market Damen developed three poduct ranges: Ballast water treatment port solutions “InvaSave”, Ballast water treatment turn key product with standard building blocks. Also has Damen Green Solutions partnered with the Dutch company AEX to offer plug and play retrofitting of SOX installations.
