DEME’s subsidiary GeoSea to design, manufacture and install turbine foundations for EnBW offshore wind farm Hohe See in Germany
DEME Group’s offshore marine engineering subsidiary GeoSea will design, manufacture and install 71 turbine foundations for the EnBW Hohe See offshore wind farm, for which GeoSea is Siemens’ EPCI partner, the company said in its press release. This partnership enables Siemens to provide offshore wind turbines including foundations to EnBW.
The design certification for the monopile and transition piece foundations was obtained end of 2016, the fabrication is foreseen in 2017 whilst offshore installation will take place in 2018. The EnBW Hohe See offshore wind farm is situated approx. 90 km north of the island of Borkum in the German North Sea.
The project will cover an area of around 40 square kilometres with water depths of up to 40 m. Hohe See will have a total installed capacity of 497MW and feature 71 Siemens SWT-7.0-154 turbines. The wind farm will supply energy to about 560,000 households and save around 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 per year. Financial close for Hohe See was announced on February 17, 2017.
DEME has a long track record as marine infrastructure solutions provider in Germany and was an early mover in the development of offshore wind in most of Europe.
After successful participation in a series of other offshore wind farms in Germany including Nordsee One, Godewind, EnBW Baltic II, Borkum Riffgrund I, Amrumbank, Butendiek, Alpha Ventus and Borkum West II, the Hohe See contract is an important demonstration of clients’ trust in GeoSea’s expertise based on a combination of know-how, entrepreneurship and high tech capabilities.
