Replacement of unsustainable temporary offshore oil transshipment facilities with state-of-the-art coastal ones through construction of an oil terminal on the western shore of the Kola Bay fully complies with the highest environmental and safety standards in the Arctic, Murmansk Region Governor Marina Kovtun said at the Arctic Course plenary session held in the framework of the 5th Murmansk International Business Week. According to the press center of the regional government, the Marina Kovtun said that when commenting on the region’s proposals to the draft law on the development of Russia’s Arctic zone.
The Governor reminded that oil produced at Arctic fields is exported via the offshore transshipment facilities in the Kola Bay. In 2015, oil exports totaled 7 mln t. When production at the Prirazlomnoye, Novoportovskoye and Pecherskoye fields gets into full swing exports will surge to 24-25 mln t per year, said Marina Kovtun.
Besides, construction of oil transshipment terminal would contribute to creation of refining facilities with higher-value-added products, primarily for domestic consumption.
