Agreement of intent under the project on construction of deepwater port in Arkhangelsk signed in Beijing
Arctic Transport and Industry Hub “Arkhangelsk” JSC and Poly International Holding Co signed an agreement of intent to implement the project on construction of a new deepwater port in Arkhangelsk, says press center of Arkhangelsk Region Government. The document has been signed today, 18 October 2016, in Beijing.
The project on construction of a deepwater port in Arkhangelsk is included into the Transport Strategy of the Russian Federation till 2030 and the territorial planning scheme of the Russian Federation for the development of federal transport. The project fully complies with the goals and objectives of the state programme.
Arctic Transport and Industry Hub “Arkhangelsk” JSC was established in May 2016 as a managing company to administer and prepare the project on construction of a new deepwater port in Arkhangelsk. The company is currently elaborating the declaration of intent to invest into social and economic development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation.
Throughput of deepwater port in Arkhangelsk is estimated at some 30 mln t by 2030.
The new port will let create an alternative and more attractive route for cargo flows to/from Europe, North America, APR countries (first of all China) and will also ensure a new independent access to the global ocean for large capacity vessels.
The project on construction of a deepwater area at Arkhangelsk seaport is linked with the Belkomur project (White Sea - Komi - Ural) which involves the construction of the railway Arkhangelsk - Syktyvkar - Solikamsk (Perm).
Compared to the route available today, cargo transportation by Belkomur and transshipment at deepwater port of Arkhangelsk will allow for logistics optimization when it comes to cargoes delivered from Urals and Siberia. The distance will reduce to 800 km, hence lower cost of delivery to the port of shipment.
New deepwater hub for round-the-year handling of large capacity vessels is to be built 55 km north from Arkhangelsk near Mudyug island, in the northern part of the Sukhoye Morje bay (Dvina Gulf in the White Sea).
