Commercial Seaport of Makhachkala should be developed comprehensively with two main tasks to be solved – clean-up of the water area bottom and preparing the port for convertion into a joint stock company, said Victor Olersky, Head of Federal Marine and River Transport Agency (Rosmorrechflot), who visited the port together with Ramazan Abdulatipov, Head of the Republic of Daghestan (RD). On September 15, they visited the ceremonial opening of the port’s new administrative building, says press center of RD Government.
Victor Olersky reminded about the potential and the advantages of Makhachkala port. With its favourable geographical location, the port of Makhachkala is Russia’s only deepwater port in the Caspian Sea.
Commercial seaport of Makhachkala is a strategically significant link between the transport system of Russia’s south with the states of the Central Asia, Iran, Trans-Caucasian region and other countries of the area. Annual capacity of its transshipment facilities is 3.15 mln t, total capacity of the port’s oil terminals – 7.95 mln t.
The port is located in proximity to the largest oil tank farm in the North Caucasus region. Having the capacity of 540,000 cbm the tank farm is linked to Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline capable of pumping 5 mln t of oil per year.
The port owns a fleet of six cargo vessels. Railway lines adjacent to the port territory have a capacity reserve of up to 10 mln t of cargo.
