Lithuanian Port of Klaipeda reports 4.2% volume growth to 23.15 million tonnes in Jan-Jul 2016
Freight throughput at Lithuania based Port of Klaipeda in January-July 2016 increased by 4.2% on the same period a year earlier to 23.15 million tonnes, the Port Authority said.
In June handling of liquid bulk cargo jumped by 21.4% to 1.03 million tonnes, of dry bulk cargo – by 16.7% to 7,25 million tonnes and of general cargo – by 11.3% to 7,2 million tonnes.
In the reporting period Klaipėda port registered 3,978 ship calls, or 161 vessels more (+4.2%) than a year before. The port handled 191,999 passengers.
The Port of Klaipeda run by SE Klaipeda State Seaport Authority is the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea and the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are 17 stevedore companies, shipyards and other operators at the port, providing a broad range of services. In 2015 throughput at the port (including Butinge Terminal) increased by 9% year-on-year to 38.44 million tonnes.
