Port of Kaliningrad throughput volume in seven months falls 7% to nearly 7 million tonnes
Cargo volumes handled at the Port of Kaliningrad, Russia in January-July 2016 decreased by 7% to 6,971,900 tonnes, the Baltic Seaports Authority statistics showed.
Handling of bulk cargo decreased by 2% to 790,100 tonnes, primarily due to a 49% drop in mineral fertilizers to 15,600 tonnes. At the same time, coal shipments jumped by 71% to 400,000 tonnes.
In particular, there was a 11% decline in suction cargo segment to 2.50 million tonnes. General cargo volume increased by 1% to 896,600 tonnes.
Container traffic at the port rose 18.5% to 106,244 TEUs.
The volume of cargo carried by ferries was 29% below last year's figure at 763,000 tonnes. Handling of liquid bulk cargo dropped to 1.44 million tonnes (-27%), including 702,800 tonnes of oil products (-38%), 451,100 tonnes of crude oil (-2%) and 267,100 tonnes of food (-26%).
