PJSC MCSP starts handling heavy grillages for Yamal project (photo)
Public Joint Stock Company Murmansk Commercial seaport (MCSP) has commenced loading multi-tonne grillages manufactured by Olen Concrete, a JV of Russia and Norway, the stevedore company said.
The grillages will be used for construction works at the Port of Sabetta and for three Yamal LNG liquefaction trains.
There were overall seven types of grillages handled. Weight ranges 14 tonnes to 54 tonnes with each unit being delivered to the port one at a time, mostly at night.
The heavy loads are being loaded onto the Northern Shipping Company's M/V Engineer Veshnyakov, making shuttle sailings between Murmansk and Sabetta. The ship will carry the large shipment of grillages. Overall, the complete grillage shipment consists of 121 reinforced concrete units with a total weight of 5,400 tonnes.
The loading is performed by gantry cranes working in tandem, which imposes additional requirements for qualification of all stevedoring team.
This is the sixth ship with cargo of grillages year-to-date handled at the berth of Murmansk CSP for Yamal. Since the beginning 2016 the total volume of general cargo shipped for Yamal has exceeded 30,000 tonnes.
Construction of the Arctic Port of Sabetta and Yamal LNG plant are the country's top projects on creation of a liquefied natural gas production hub in Russia of annual capacity of 16.5 million tonnes supplied from Yuzho-Tambeyskoye field on the Yamal Peninsula. Major businesses of Murmansk region are actively engaged in the project, taking advantage of the available port infrastructure.
Murmansk Commercial seaport PJSC (PAO MMTP) was founded in 1994. MMTP operates 17 berths of total length of about 3 km. The waters depths allow the port to accommodate vessels with draft of 15.5 m and length of more than 265 m. In 2015 MCSP handled 14.6 million tonnes of various cargoes, primarily coal (93.3% – 13.6 million tonnes), 291 ships and 206,207 rail cars.
