Port of Singapore cargo volumes climb 0.4% to 342.97 million tonnes in Jan-Jul, 2016
Freight traffic at the Port of Singapore in January – July period rose by 0.4% y-o-y to 342,970,000 tonnes, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) provisional figures show.
In the liquid bulk segment petroleum products volume increased by 11.1% to 127,9 million tonnes.
Shipments of dry bulk cargo dropped by 12.5% to 9,53 million tonnes.
Port container throughput also declined by 4.3% to 17.75 million TEUs.
Singapore is the city-state located on an island in the South-East Asia. Port of Singapore is the world's busiest port in terms of total shipping tonnage. Singapore also transships a fifth of the world's shipping containers as the world's busiest container port, half of the world's annual supply of crude oil, and is the world's busiest transshipment port. In 2015, container traffic at the Port of Singapore reached 30,92 million TEUs and total cargo throughput was 575 million tonnes.
