Comprehensive development of Murmansk Transport Hub is an important project for the development of Murmansk, Murmansk Region and the entire North-West region as well as for strengthening of Russia’s position as a great maritime power, press center of Murmansk Region Government cites Sergei Naryshkin, chairman of the Russian State Duma, as saying at the yesterday meeting dedicated to the project implementation.
Murmansk Transport Hub has a real status of an ‘anchor’ project for successful development of the Arctic shelf and the Northern Sea Route, emphasized Murmansk Region Governor Marina Kovtun.
“In fact, the Kola Bay and the port of Murmansk have been created by the nature itself to become a strategic transport and logistics center of Russia in the North-West and the Arctic region”, said Marina Kovtun.
The meeting participants including representatives of RF Transport Ministry, contractor and other stakeholders discussed the project implementation and its challenges.
The project on comprehensive development of Murmansk Transport Hub is on the list of 17 most promising projects of Russia’s Arctic Zone as well as on the list of the priority investment projects of the North-West federal district. It complies with the Transport Strategy of the Russian Federation till 2030 and the Programme for the development of Russia’s coal industry till 2030.
Construction of the project’s federally owned component, a railway to the western shore of the Kola Bay, is in full swing. The contractor is ready to speed up the construction to complete it in 2018 according to the state contract.
