Two new ports with annual capacity of 5 mln t each to be built in Dikson (Krasnoyarsk Territory)
Two new ports with annual capacity of 5 mln t each will be built in Dikson (Krasnoyarsk Territory) in the nearest future amid the production expansion, press center of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Government refers to the meeting of the Polar Commission chaired by Governor Viktor Tolokonsky and held on June 23, 2016.
The meeting discussed the prospects of Dikson settlement. The commission participants say there are two directions of the area development. The first one is the development of mineral resources. Taimyr boasts one the world’s largest fields of high quality coal (anthracites) – Taibas. Arcticheskaya Gornaya Company LLC has launched a large scale project on its production and exporting to Europe along the Northern Sea Route. There is a plan to create a new industrial cluster able to give an impetus to the territory development. The Company is going to produce 20 mln t of coal per year by 2020. In view of future coal production Dikson will see the construction of two new ports with annual capacity of 5 mln t each. The settlement has an advantageous location within the transcontinental sea corridor between Europe and Asia. The ports of Dikson can accommodate service centers, rescue bases, fueling points and centers for repair of vessels.
The meeting also discussed the environmental issues of the Krasnoyarsk Territory’s Arctic zone. The work carried out under the state environmental programme revealed 52 places of accumulated environmental damage at Dudinka, Dikson and Hatanga. A special ground is to be established for collection and treatment of waster which is to improve the ecological situation in the area.
