Lena United Shipping Company opens 2016 navigation season (picture)
Yakutsk, Russia based Lena United Shipping Company has officially launched the 2016 navigation season. The pennant was raised above the company's headquarters in Yakutsk May 3 2016 as a symbol of the navigation start, the shipping company said.
The first vessel that kicked off this year's navigation season was the MP-2564 barge that moored at Osetrovo for loading a slab. The cargo will be shipped to the Chayandinskoye field and is intended for the construction of Power of Siberia gas pipeline.
There are 11 vessels of Kirensk navigation stretch of Lena Shipping Company at Kirensk to set out on a voyage. The vessels will sail to Osetrovo for loading vital supplies for the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) after an icebreaker clears the path to the terminal.
This year's navigation season the river fleet operator plans to transport 1,310,000 tonnes of cargo (a 1% growth y-o-y), including 884,000 tonnes of dry bulk cargo and 426,000 tonnes of oil products. To carry the projected volume the company will deploy 246 vessels of a total capacity of 371,000 GT.
Lena United River Shipping Company is the only transport company operating in the Arctic area of the republic of Sakha (Yakutia). It transports freight and passengers along inland water ways and the sea routes. The company owns and operates a fleet of more than 350 units, including cargo ships, tugs, passenger and support vessels with the total capacity of 450,000 GT. The Republic of Sakha government has a majority stake in the shipping company.
