Over 3 mln t of inert aggregate and metal structures have been delivered throughout preparation for construction of a bridge across the Kerch Strait. Federal Road Agency (Rosavtodor) says water transport is being widely used for transportation of sand, broken stone, pipes for pile foundation etc. either directly to Kerch or between the construction sites. Three temporary berths have been built for those purposes: at Tuzla spit, Tuzla island and Kerch shore.
“The priority in supplying of materials for a bridge to the Crimea is given to plants and quarries located close to the construction site”, said Leonid Ryzhenkin, Director of Stroigazmontah LLC for construction of the transport passage across the Kerch Strait.
Total amount of materials and structures for Kerch bridge project implementation will exceed 12.5 mln t.
Under the project, the bridge will consist of a road and rail sections. The bridge will start on the Taman peninsular, runs along the existing 5km-long dam as far as Tuzla Island. Then the bridge crosses the Kerch Strait, going around Cape Ak-Burun from the north. The crossing will be 19 km long.
Federal Road Agency’s Administration of Federal Highways “Taman” and Stroygasmontazh LLC signed a state contract for designing and construction of a bridge across the Kerch Strait on February 17, 2015. According to RF Government order, road traffic in the standard operating mode and temporary operation of the railway should be launched in December 2018 while the commissioning of the facilities and completion of the state contract is scheduled for 2019.
