Most extensive project regarding reconstruction and building of access roads of the Port of Ventspils is finished
Freeport of Ventspils Authority has finished the six years long project regarding reconstruction and building of access roads of the terminals of the Port of Ventspils and industrial zones, the port’s press center says. 48 sections of streets and squares of Ventspils at the total length of 28.7 kilometres and at the area of 14.6 hectares respectively have been re-built and restored. Nearly 36 million euro have been invested in the streets and squares of Ventspils within this project financed by the EU Cohesion Fund.
Implementation of the project “Reconstruction of access roads to the terminals and industrial zones located in the territory of the Freeport of Ventspils” was commenced in 2010, but all the works related to construction were completed at the end of 2015. Provision of good infrastructure at the Port of Ventspils is one of the funDamental tasks of the Freeport of Ventspils Authority, therefore, very high attention is being paid to investments in the port’s infrastructure. Good quality access roads in the port are of main importance for the maintenance of the port’s competitiveness. Street infrastructure is very important for the companies – production units located at the industrial territory of the Freeport of Ventspils, as well. Due to the implemented projects, the Freeport of Ventspils is able to offer to its clients the best conditions for the commencement and development of entrepreneurship.
Access roads to the terminals and industrial zones located in the territory of the Port of Ventspils simultaneously serve as streets used by the residents of Ventspils, therefore, special attention was paid to ensure the constructed streets were equally suitable both for the needs of port, as well as the convenience of people with functional disorders. Wheelchair ramps were built at 39 objects, traffic lights with acoustic signal were installed at two objects, but special marking was built at six objects, where bus stops were located.
Between 2010 and 2015, 48 sections of streets and squares were re-built and reconstructed in the territory of the Freeport of Ventspils within the project, by building and reconstructing access roads of the total length of 28.7 km in total, as well as by putting in order previously undeveloped territories at the area of 14.6 ha. Talsu Street (section between Kaiju Street and the administrative border of the city – 3.9 km), Dzintaru Street (several sections, 3.3 in total), Kustes Dam (section between Fabrikas Street and the administrative border of the city (including Robežu Street between Kustes Dam and I.Mičurina Street) – 2.2 km), Celtnieku Street (section between Talsu Street and Siguldas Street – 1.4 km), and Embūtes Street (sections between Tārgales Street and Celtnieku Street and between Radio Street and Tārgales Street – 1.1 km) should be mentioned among the most important objects. Undeveloped industrial territories were also put in order by building carriageways and parking lots, for example, at Kaiju Street 9 (Ventspils High Technology Park) and at K.Valdemāra Street 24 (parking lot by the berth No. 40A).
Project No. 3DP/3.3.1.3.0/10/IPIA/SM/002 “Reconstruction of access roads to the terminals and industrial zones located in the territory of the Freeport of Ventspils” was implemented within the framework of the action programme Infrastructure and services within the addition in the activity 3.3.1.3 Development of large ports infrastructure “Sea motorways”. Total eligible costs of the project were 35.9 million euro, including the attracted co-funding of the EU Cohesion Fund at the amount of 30.5 million euro.
