Order backlog of Arctech Helsinki Shipyard is about EUR 600 million, Esko Mustamäki, CEO of Arctech Helsinki Shipyard, told journalists on January 27, 2016.
He said the Company’s backlog of orders extends until spring 2017 and includes five vessels. “Next delivery will be icebreaker Polaris ordered by Finnish Transport Agency. It will be the 1st LNG driven icebreaker in the world”, said Mr. Mustamäki.
The Polaris has been at the shipyard’s outfitting quay for 2 weeks already. Area outfitting and commissioning is underway onboard the ship.
Apart from the Polaris, Arctech Helsinki Shipyard is to deliver four icebreaking vessels for Sovcomflot including one platform supply vessel and three stand-by vessels.
Mr. Mustamäki said the icebreaking platform supply vessel (NB 511) will be about the same size as the shipyard delivered to Sovcomflot in 2012-2013 but will have a lot of technical improvements and more space for passengers. “This vessel will serve Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd. (SEIC) in the North East Sakhalin Offshore area. It is to be delivered later this year. It is under construction at the building dock at the moment”, added Arctech CEO.
As Arctech’s Senior Vice President Markku Kajosaari told journalists, keel-laying of the first stand-by vessel will be held in a couple of weeks. “Our dry dock can accommodate Panamax class vessels. Now it is used for building icebreaking platform supply vessel (NB 511) for Sovcomflot. We can easily build two vessels of this size here. Keel-laying of NB 512 will be held in a couple of weeks. So we will have NB 511 and NB 512 under construction at the same time”, he explained.
According to Mr. Mustamäki, three stand-by vessels for Sovcomflot will be delivered late this year and in spring 2017.
“At the moment, of course, we try to sign new contracts under new projects to secure future work for the shipyard. For example, Arctic in a Nutshell project has some questions we try to answer”, added Mr. Mustamäki.
