Battlecruiser Admiral Nakhimov undergoes overhaul at Sevmash Shipyard
Kirov-class nuclear-powered battlecruiser Admiral Nakhimov (Project 11442) is undergoing overhaul and modernization in drydock at Severodvinsk, Archangelsk region based Sevmash Shipyard (part of United Shipbuilding Corp.), the shipbuilding company said.
The shipyard finalizes survey of the ship's hull and flaw detectin. No major problems were revealed . Shipbuilders have completed cleaning most of the structures, continue grit-blasting and undercoating.
The ship designer Northern Design Bureau (Severnoye PKB) provides drawings, the shops commenced fabrication of some parts of the hull. Works are distributed across the construction facilities but basically, carried out by workers at assembly ways shop, and other facilities of Sevmash.
"The main task in 2016 is the signing of contracts with equipment suppliers and preparation for its installation", the company said.
JSC PO Sevmash is part of United Shipbuilding Corporation, Russia’s state-owned shipbuilding conglomerate. Sevmash is the largest shipbilding enterprise and Russia's only producer of nuclear submarines. Specializes in marine engineering, manufacturing for offshore oil and gas sector, in military and civil shipbuilding, and performs repair, refitting, conversion contracts.
