New York Governor Andrew Cuomo vetoes the Port Ambrose terminal project
Andrew Cuomo, Governor of New York, has vetoed the Port Ambrose Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Deepwater Port on grounds of security and economic concerns.
The project which was proposed over three years ago required approval from the adjacent coastal states of New York and New Jersey.
His review argued that the project posed inherent and unanswered security risks to the region. There was also a potential for catastrophic impacts during extreme weather events which Mr Cuomo deemed unacceptable.
Alongside this, the project was said to pose disruption to commercial and recreational maritime activities and interfere with the off-shore wind power project already proposed by the New York Power Authority.
