Port of Gdansk cargo throughput in 10M 2015 rises 13.1% to 29.97 million tonnes
Freight volumes handled at the terminals of Port of Gdansk, Poland between January and October 2015 increased by 13.1% compared to the same period last year , to 29,974,000 tonnes, the Port Authority statistics said.
In the reporting period grain shipments fell by 2.5% to 1,259,355 tonnes, while general cargo and timber volumes increased by 3.8% to 9,591,086 tonnes. The volume of other bulk cargo (aggregates, sulfur ore) decreased by 1.4% to 2,916,273 tonnes. Coal throughput jumped by 28.1% to 3,810,878 tonnes. Handling of liquid bulk fuel rose 23.5% to 12,396,178 tonnes.
The Port of Gdansk is a major international transportation hub situated in the central part of the southern Baltic coast. The port handles liquid bulk / bulk cargoes (oil, coal, metal ores) and provides a number of line services linking it with the ports of the Baltic Sea and Western Europe (primarily ferry, container and Ro-Ro lines). In 2014, freight throughput at the port totaled 32,277,558 tonnes.
