Bayernhafen Aschaffenburg and Nuremberg terminals join InlandLinks
Bayernhafen Aschaffenburg and Nuremberg terminals join InlandLinks, Port of Rotterdam said in its press release. Both terminals are trimodal, their focus being primarily on transhipment by rail. At the Bayernhafen Aschaffenburg terminal, where more than 70 companies are located, almost 19,000 TEU were transhipped in 2014. This 150% growth was also enhanced by the inland waterway connection between Mainz and Rotterdam which came into operation in early 2014. Around 260 companies are based at the bayernhafen Nuremberg terminal. In 2014 TriCon-Container Terminal Nuremberg shipped around 270,000 TEU by rail. In March 2012 a shuttle connection was established between Rotterdam and Nuremberg and its operators, EGS/TX Logistik, are constantly increasing the frequency of service.
The Bayernhafen group has adopted an effective strategy to promote freight transport by rail and water. Within this framework, it has carried out the bayrolo study in conjunction with the Rotterdam Port Authority. The aim of this cross-border project is to improve the intermodal container transport between Bavaria and the Port of Rotterdam.
InlandLinks is the online platform for container terminals in the hinterland that offer intermodal (rail and/or inland shipping) services to and from Rotterdam. The platform presents details of the participating terminals based on objective and comparable criteria. These criteria are checked annually to ensure that they are correct. InlandLinks allows users to identify the general options and specific advantages offered by Rotterdam-related intermodal transport. In addition, the platform contributes to the increase in intermodal transport via inland shipping and rail of container flows – the volume of which is expected to triple over the next 25 years. InlandLinks, an initiative of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, was launched two years ago in partnership with the Association of Dutch Inland Terminal Operators (Vereniging van Inland Terminal Operators/VITO).
