NYK exports first Ford Figo Aspire cars from the Indian port of Pipavav
On August 26, a consignment of 1,380 new Figo Aspire vehicles produced at a brand new plant of Ford India in Sanand, Gujarat, were loaded onto NYK’s Grand Dahlia at the newly constructed NYK RORO terminal facility at the port of Pipavav, the company said in its press release.
Construction of this RORO terminal began in July 2014 by NYK Auto Logistics (India) Pvt. Ltd and the facility became operational in August 2015. It has an annual throughput capacity of 250,000 vehicles and is equipped with a state-of-the-art PDI centre for processing vehicles.
NYK Auto Logistics (India) Pvt. Ltd operates the Pipavav terminal facility jointly with Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd, a subsidiary of APM terminals. Pipvav port is located in northwestern India in the state of Gujarat. Automobile companies such as Ford are planning to expand their exports from the west coast of India in the future, and Pipavav is expected to become a hub port for these exports.
With the launch of the Pipavav RORO terminal, the NYK Group is set to provide complete outbound logistics for finished cars from automobile clusters in northern and western India.
The NYK Group will continue to take advantage of the creative solutions initiated in the company’s "More Than Shipping 2018" medium-term management plan to provide advanced, professional finished-car services.
