NAVANTIA awarded contracts for four Suezmax tankers
Navantia and Maritime Transport Ondimar LDA (a shipping division of Ibaizabal Group) has ratified the contracts signed in late June for the construction of four Suezmax tankers, including an option for two vessels, the Spanish shipbuilder said in a press release.
The shipyard will commence contract execution in the fourth quarter of this year with the newbuildings delivery slated for late 2017. The contract value was not disclosed.
To get this contract, Navantia had reached an agreement with DSEC, Daewoo Engineering Division, which brings its experience in building such vessels and developed a well-established design. Shipyards in the Bay of Cadiz will build most of these Suezmax tankers.
Regarding the Engineering , Navantia conceptual focus its resources on engineering and design innovative naval and civilian vessels with high added value, such as LNG, bound both the domestic market and export. Likewise, another priority of engineering for Navantia, based on the agreements with shipyards in different countries, will be technical assistance and ToT (transfer of technology), activity increasing demand and future. Diversification through off-shore wind power is another key for the company.

NAVANTIA is a Spanish state-owned company owned by the Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales (SEPI), which controls 100% of its capital. SEPI is a public-law entity, whose activities are regulated by private law, and which is attached to the Ministerio de Hacienda y Administraciones Públicas (Ministry of Finance and Public Administrations) being directly answerable to the Minister.
