Vyborg Shipyard to lay down lead 22 MW icebreaker for Gazprom Neft Novy Port in mid- September (photo)
Vyborg Shipyard (United Shipbuilding Corporation) will lay down the lead 22 MW multi-purpose diesel-electric icebreaker for Gazprom Neft Novy Port on September 18-19, 2015, Aleksandr Solovyov, Director General of the shipyard, told IAA PortNews at the Seventh International Maritime Defence Show in Saint-Petersburg.
He said the keel-laying of the second icebreaker is scheduled for December, 2015.
Under the contract, the vessels are to be delivered to the customer before 2018.
The icebreakers will operate at the Arctic terminal of the Novoportovskoye field on the western bank of the Ob Bay (Yamal peninsula).
The vessels are intended for escorting of tankers, assistance during mooring, loading, rescue operations, providing tugging assistance, firefighting, participation in oil spill response activities.
The vessels will be built to the latest design and will have ice class Icebreaker8 ensuring icebreaking capability of up to 2 m and feature high maneuverability and relatively shallow draught. Under the contract, the vessels should be able to operate continuously under the temperature of up to -50 С.
