Lunar Fishing places orders for the newbuilding of 2 x 79,00 m Purser / Trawlers with Karstensen Shipyard
Owners Lunar Fishing Co Ltd / Wiseman Fishing Co Ltd, respectively Lunar Fishing Co Ltd, has placed orders for the newbuilding of 2 x 79,00 m Purser / Trawlers with Karstensen Shipyard, the company said in its press release.
Lunar Fishing currently operates 3 pelagic vessels (of which the 2 will be replaced by these newbuildings) and 3 white fish trawlers in Scotland. In addition, the company has extensive shore side facilities for handling pelagic-as well as white fish. The company has been well-known for a constant development of their fleet, with continuous newbuildings.
Both vessels will operate along the same pattern as the existing vessels, ie with combined trawl and purse seine fishery, where pursing occurs primarily at mackerel. Other species, such as herring and blue whiting are caught by trawl nets.
Like other pelagic newbuildings currently under construction at Karstensen, the 2 vessels are in-house designed. Karstensen Shipyard has, for the time being, orders for no less than 7 pelagic vessels, which are to be delivered throughout the next 3 years. Karstensen Shipyard offers a complete concept, where all solutions are optimized and tailor made to customer specifications and requirements. Karstensen is independent of all suppliers, which makes such an optimization very flexible.
The 2 identical vessels will be top modern pelagic purser / trawlers. The vessel design, specification and arrangements is a result of an extensive and close cooperation between owners and yard. Main focus has been set on optimizing working, safety and comfort for the crew, optimizing catch handling- and storage facilities and optimizing of fuel consumption.
In order to reach above targets, the ships will be outfitted with all the newest machinery and equipment, and suppliers have been chosen carefully to match specification and requirements.
Wartsila will be supplying the complete propulsion plant, including a 9L32 main engine, at 5220 kW. The propeller design will be optimized to the specific service profile of the vessel, with rpm’s between 90 and 124. This will ensure optimized bollard pull for trawling, as well as good free-sailing characteristics. Auxiliary engines will consist of 4 units, 3 x 550 og 1 x 150 kWe.
Based on first-hand experience, Owners has chosen Karmøy Winch as supplier of the full deck machinery package.
New KINGS CROSS is scheduled for delivery in October 2016, and PATHWAY in June 2017. Price indication, each: DKK 210 m / EUR 29 m / GBP 22,4 m
