Another section of ‘Rail Baltica’ is completed
After two years of works, the reconstruction of the European-gauge railway line from Lithuania’s border with Poland to Mockava railway station is completed, says press center of Lithuania’s Ministry of Transport and Communications. In this new railroad gauge line, the speed of the passenger trains increased up to 120 km/h, while freight trains – up to 80 km/h.
16 culverts, 8 crossing, 4 bridges and 326 meters of sound fences were installed in 13 kilometers long 1435 mm gauge line between Mockava railway station and the first junction in Poland.
In order to protect the migrating animals, the entire line is circumscribed with fence made of welded steel. In addition, 11 kilometers of roads situated in Mockava railway station were reconstructed, automatic track gauge changeover for trains was rebuilt.
‘Rail Baltica’ is one of the priority railway projects of the European Union which will link Helsinki, Tallinn, Riga, Kaunas and Warsaw. JSC ‘Lithuanian Railways’ is project’s developer in Lithuanian territory.
Two parts of the ‘Rail Baltica’ project are co-financed under the EU's TEN-T programme and from the Lithuanian budget within Lithuania: reconstruction and building of the European-gauge track between the Polish–Lithuanian border and Marijampolė as well as reconstruction of the existing track between Šiauliai and Lithuanian–Latvian border.
